Dover Castle & The White Cliffs of Dover Dover Castle & The White Cliffs of Dover

We are pleased to welcome you to yet another new and exciting trip!

Dover Castle commands the Strait of Dover, a position of strategic importance throughout history.

Castle Hill was shaped into massive defences capped by medieval walls and towers and, from the mid 18th century, by the earthworks of a garrisoned infantry and artillery fortress. Beneath are networks of tunnels that enabled the garrison to move, plan and live in safety.

King Henry II began to build the present castle in the 1180s, and over the next 800 years its buildings, defences and tunnels were adapted to meet the changing demands of warfare, right into the era of nuclear weapons.

Join us to explore England’s mightiest fortress!

The Great Tower offers freeflow self-guided tours. Costumed live interpreters welcome you at the Great Tower on selected days and there are life-like hologram characters at all other times. Over 80 acres of grounds feature battlements, curtain walls and other military items.

The coach will depart from in front of Parkside Police Station at 08.00.
